ABOUT

Hi!  I'm Amy,

and I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC.0015398) working in the northern Colorado community since 2016.  I came to Colorado from the east coast in 2006, and quickly fell in love with the beautiful scenery, friendly folks, and gorgeous weather.  I'm admittedly a transplant, but have considered Colorado home for years.

I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in English from James Madison University (Go Dukes!) in 2004.  It took me a several years working in higher education to discover my true passion of helping people thrive through challenging circumstances as a therapist.  I received my MA in Professional Counseling in 2016.  Talk therapy has changed my life in countless ways, and it is a privilege and an honor to walk alongside humans in discovering and pursuing happier, more fulfilling times.

The majority of my professional experience has centered around working with survivors of sexual abuse.  Along with a strong foundation in trauma, I have worked a considerable amount with those struggling with anxiety, depression, and PTSD.  I have received extensive training in trauma-informed treatment, experiential play therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and I possess a special interest in working with members of the LGBTQ+ community, as both a member of that community and a passionate and affirming ally.

In my spare time, I am an absolute beach bum- I love to swim, lay in the sun, and eat seafood!  I'm always excited to explore the breathtaking corners of Colorado with my partner and kiddo, and I love to hear live music.  I'm passionate about following all things JMU-related, and I have a habitual pile of counseling-related books to catch up on!  I consider myself to be empathetic, openminded, and flexible.  I am not easily shocked or alarmed, so you can feel comfortable sharing openly.  I take the therapeutic relationship seriously, as I realize how difficult it can be to ask an essential stranger for help, and to lay out the most intimate details of your life.  I am kind, warm and welcoming, and I approach the work with energy and a sense of humor.  Life is hard, and the ability to laugh occasionally can carry us a long way!

I hope that we're able to connect soon, so I can hear more about your journey!
